Ancient Egypt: Carnelian was known as the “Blood of Isis.” Isis was the Goddess of Nature and Guide of Souls to the Underworld. They would place a Carnelian amulet with a deceased person, with the belief that Isis would take the soul safely to their next life.

Renaissance: It was also used in Renaissance magic to protect the wearer, as well as to protect a home from storms.
